After creating my first successful course with Articulate Rise 360, I began exploring the world of Storyline. After all, this program is one of our industry standards. I began viewing online tutorials and attending webinars (David Anderson actually provides some very thorough training of this platform). I followed along, emulating everything that he would do. I learned all about the Storyline elements: scenes, slides, layers, states and triggers. I wanted to be able to build a fully comprehensive course within this software. After about a week, I felt I was ready.
I decided to build a course focusing on the DISC personality profiles. This subject was something I was quite familiar with, as DISC training was a part of my onboarding process. Since this course focused on understanding different personality traits, I figured anyone could find this useful. Team executives, hiring managers, even employees. I found a website that focused in on these specific traits (discprofiles4u.com) and got to work. I decided to create four modules focusing on the personality traits, a dashboard for navigation and a course quiz. First, I began working on the dashboard. I wanted to catch the viewers’ attention immediately, so I decided early on that I would add music and at least one sound effect. Once I created the visuals of the dashboard, I imported two audio files from iMovie into the course. By adding a few triggers, I was able to set the music to continuously play, until a module was selected. Upon module selection, the music would halt. For the personality trait modules, I included images and illustrations from Storyline’s media content library, as well as Canva. I even included a knowledge check for each module that incorporated Storyline’s character library. By setting a few states and adding a few triggers, I was able to seemingly have Lily interact with her students! Once all of this was complete, I created a short quiz. Then, I published and shared this to my professional platform.
Though this course was a bit more difficult to create, I did enjoy the creation process. It required massive attention to detail, as you really had to flush out all of the branching scenarios and content triggers.
